How To Make A Request

The “How To” Part:

  1. Look through the directory.
  2. Find a topic/speaker relevant to your unit of study or school event (such as a career fair). If you have a topic in mind that you don't see in the directory, call us and we'll do our best to find a speaker!
  3. Get a firm idea about what it is you would like your invited guest to do.
  4. Have some proposed dates and times you'd like the speaker to present. Be sure to have alternative dates and topics/speakers in mind. Please allow a minimum of three weeks notice.
  5. Fill out the Speaker Spot On-line Form and submit the request.

Then What?

  • We will follow-up to confirm that we have received your request and go over any details that may be missing.
  • We will contact the speaker you have chosen to confirm his/her availability for the date and time you request.
  • If your first choice is available, we will get back to you with the information you require to contact the speaker yourself.
  • If your first choice is unavailable, together we can try for alternative dates and/or topics/speakers. We will then get back to you with the information you require to contact the speaker yourself.
  • At that time, it is incumbent upon you to contact your speaker directly. You and your confirmed speaker will then discuss the nature of the presentation and you’ll be sure your speaker knows all that is included on the checklist provided in this package.
  • Of course, when your speaker arrives at your school you will follow all the best tips for successful hosting.
  • Afterwards you will follow up with a written thank you to the speaker and you (and your class) will complete and forward the On-Line Feedback form(s) to the BEC.
